CLASSROOM CREED
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We are a FAMILY and we are FRIENDS.
We're READY to LEARN when the day begins.
We try our BEST in everything WE DO.
We want to be BRAVE and STRONG and TRUE.
We know GOD is WITH US through the day.
HE wants to HELP US in every way.
So TOGETHER we face this day as ONE.
We GROW and LEARN
and have a lot of FUN!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Be PREPARED for learning activities each day
- Be RESPECTFUL towards others, their needs, and their property.
This includes showing RESPECT for oneself.
- ALWAYS give BEST effort in ALL activities.
- Follow CLASSROOM RULES, as well as SCHOOL RULES.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CLASSROOM RULES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Listen to instructions
...attentively
Participate in learning
...actively
Complete assigned tasks
...appropriately
(NEAT and ON TIME!)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
RULES for BEHAVIOR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Stay seated
Stay quiet
Stay respectful
Stay working
These 4 'Rules for Behavior' in conjunction with our 'Classroom Rules' and 'Classroom Expectations', serve as the basis for our Classroom Discipline Policy.
Our 'Classroom Discipline Policy' has outlined CONSEQUENCES and REWARDS. Included within this policy is the opportunity for students to determine a 'PLAN of ACTION' to correct inappropriate behaviors and/or decisions they may have made.
The teacher, parent/guardian, and child
As your child's teacher...I will strive for complete learning success, of all the students in the classroom. My goal is to meet the needs of each learner, by employing a variety of teaching methods and activities.
Your role as a supportive parent can be to:
- MONITOR the work your child is bringing home and participating in
- PRAISE and ENCOURAGE your child each day, to promote their desire to be a successful learner
- SUPPORT your child's teacher, and what he/she is trying to accomplish with your child
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ATTENDANCE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DAILY attendance is VERY important if the student is to be a successful learner. Missing too many days, or disregarding school schedules and routines, can harm the child's ability to follow what is going on.
Please notify me if there is reasons for difficulties in this area, for your child. I will gladly arrange homework if your child is going to be away for periods of time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
HOMEWORK
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Though the children are given class time to complete assigned work, it is VERY IMPORTANT that your child be given time for NIGHTLY learning activities at home (minimum 20-30 minutes each night).
Assigned homework MUST be completed.
If no homework is assigned, your child may read, practice math facts, or study/go over what has been covered in their learning.
HOMEWORK BOOKS/PLANNERS should be viewed EACH NIGHT and monitored by you at home, to prevent learning difficulties from occuring. The Homework Books act as an excellent means of keeping the lines of communication open between the classroom and the home.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FIELD TRIPS and SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I strongly encourage parent(s)/guardian(s) to VOLUNTEER to assist in our classroom. Events are much more enjoyable and worthwhile, when assistance is given.
If you are able to attend and assist at any classroom event...PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
I will send home permission slips with information on what assistance is needed, when these events arise.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
CLASSROOM STRUCTURE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ever since your child first became a student, certain RESPONSIBILITIES have been asked of your child. Your child must learn to work INDEPENDENTLY and be SELF-MOTIVATED to keep on task, without excessive supervision and encouragement.
Each Grade level has specific learner objectives and learning outcomes that they must achieve and what each student is expected to be able to do at each Grade level, varies. That means...expectations in assigned work will suit the needs of each student at each Grade level.
Instruction may be given to the entire class at the same time, but the work that is to be completed, will allow for the different learning abilities of each learner.
Students in the classroom are able to review what was learned in the past, cover learning that is new, and be challenged to learn beyond what is normally presented to them, at their Grade level.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LEARNING OUTCOMES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
These may be found in Alberta Education's published 'Curriculum Handbook for Parents' Catholic School Version, available for each Grade level. Please let the school know if you wish to view/purchase a copy of these.
